Steven Reyes

I know this is usually the part where I’m supposed to talk about myself, but there’s not much to it. I was born and raised in Queens, New York, by a single mom. I’ve been a trainer for over a decade, spending eight of those years at one of the top luxury gyms in NYC. As much as I love New York, life had other plans and somehow my wife and I ended up in Nashville. But more importantly than where I’ve been is how I approach training. Let me tell you a bit about my philosophy.

A Healthy Lifestyle > Fitness

How can we shift fitness to be a healthy part of your lifestyle, rather than measuring your quality of life by how often you exercise?

A healthy lifestyle with the inclusion of fitness. It’s a principle I practice and how I try to shape my clients’ thought processes and programs.

Creating a mindset to appreciate the fact that you don’t HAVE to exercise but rather that you’re FORTUNATE enough to exercise. Having worked with many clients with some form of injury or disability, let me tell you that nothing brings them more joy than getting to move without fear. How a former athlete feeling muscle soreness after years of not being able to move without pain sparks such joy.

You don’t have to give up all the foods you love and eat “rabbit food” for the rest of your life. How can we find a sustainable, balanced approach to your food choices so you can front load and backload your calorie intake, therefore allowing you to still enjoy some of the foods you love while giving your body the healthiest foods to supply the nutrients for it to work optimally.

Not waking up for that 5:45 am HIIT class this morning shouldn’t drive guilt for the rest of the day. Having a piece of cake at a friend’s birthday dinner shouldn’t automatically require 2 workouts per day for the next week. Choosing an exercise class over spending time with loved ones just isn’t it. Your life shouldn’t revolve around fitness and what you look like.

I believe it’s important for people to understand the difference between what looks good in an advertisement, and what is healthy and sustainable. Don’t yo-yo for the rest of your life.

I’ll be honest, if you’re looking for the drill Sergeant that yells at you to get out of bed at 4:00 a.m & go run 12 miles … I’m probably not the coach for you. If you’re looking for someone to pass judgment on everything you eat …I’m probably not the coach for you. If your measure of a good workout is whether you threw up midway through ... I’m probably not the coach for you. If you’re looking for a smarter approach to health … I’m the Coach for you.
